Hi, I'm Sarah! 🌍✈️ I am so glad you’re here because it means you have an interest in learning English, but not just any English- American English. Maybe you have taken English classes before only to feel there is a difference between what you are learning and what you see on American TV. It is one thing to learn a language, but it is even more exciting when you can bridge the gap between the language and culture. This is why in my English classes we will work towards learning the language but also phonetics, idioms, American culture, and more. When you work with me, you will see a clear difference between your understanding of American English and the cultural references in your favorite American shows. If you are worried that this sounds too advanced for where you are at right now, have no fear! I offer a wide variety of American English tutor sessions for all ages. Phonetic English for All Ages: One of my favorite things is helping non-native speakers improve their pronunciation by applying phonetic English. Together, we will focus on the sounds of individual letters, combination letters, and the stress patterns in words and sentences so that you can begin to sound like a native English speaker. Advanced English: Whether you are looking to start learning more advanced English or are interested in brushing up, my advanced English classes will help you reach your language goals. Each session will introduce new vocabulary, concepts, and common idioms; as well as, provide you with writing prompts. Along the way, I will encourage you to embrace accent refinement during our conversations and through the materials provided. Learn English Through the FRIENDS TV Show: If you are like me, you love FRIENDS. From Ross’s dinosaur obsession to Phoebe’s quirkiness, there are so many insights into American culture, idioms, expressions, vocabulary, and more packed into each episode. In my unique FRIENDS curriculum, you will work towards speaking like a native while beginning to understand the cultural references and inside jokes within the show. I understand what it is like to learn a new language and how important it is to find a teacher that suits your personal and educational goals and needs. I am originally from Seattle, Washington but now live in Mexico and have learned Spanish myself. So, I have been in the seat of a student who has felt the disconnect between language and culture and regretted not learning more about how culture influences languages.
